Undergraduate Accounting Programs

Undergraduate Programs in Accounting

Every business, organization, and individual who files taxes needs accountants or auditors to prepare, review, or examine financial records. With our undergraduate accounting programs, students will learn the analytical and practical skills required to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and to have a successful career in accounting.

While studying foundational and advanced concepts in accounting and business, students will learn from dedicated faculty and have access to state-of-the-art facilities, career advising, and numerous professional development opportunities all designed to prepare them for a wide range of careers.

Careers in Accounting

A degree in accounting can open a variety of career possibilities. Some possible pathways include:

  • public accounting
  • entrepreneurship
  • corporate finance
  • auditing
  • tax preparation
  • sales management

Degree Programs

The University of La Verne offers students a choice between a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. Both options will fulfill the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam.

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting is offered at the La Verne Campus and provides students with a comprehensive education in accounting. Core courses establish a broad foundation of accounting, economics, finance, business law, marketing, management, and ethics.

Bachelor of Science Concentrations

Students in the BS program may select a concentration to customize their educational experience based upon interests and career goals:

  • business finance
  • business management
  • human resources management
  • information technology
  • international business
  • marketing

The Bachelor of Arts in Accounting is offered in a session-based format, allowing adult learners the flexibility to complete their degree at their own pace while managing personal and professional responsibilities. Students may take classes at the La Verne Campus as well as at several of our regional campuses.

The college also offers minors in business administration, business management, economics, or marketing to allow students to customize their education to suit their interests.

At the University of La Verne, our academic programs are led by professors who are experts in their fields. Our small class sizes lead to a more engaging classroom experience and a low student-to-faculty ratio allows faculty more time to get to know students and advise them on educational and career goals.

Bachelor’s and Master’s Combination Program

The Accounting 4+1 program allows eligible undergraduate students to complete their bachelor’s degree in accounting and Master of Science in Accounting in just five years. Students will follow an educational plan that they develop with a personal academic advisor to complete undergraduate coursework during the first three years. After the third year, qualified students may apply to begin taking graduate-level courses.

Hands-On Learning Opportunities

Accounting students have many opportunities outside the classroom to develop their professional skills through volunteer work and experiential learning in the community. Our accounting students may volunteer for the VITA program, which helps members of the La Verne community fill out their tax forms for free.

In addition, students are encouraged to intern for local accounting firms or to join ULV Society of Accountants, a student organization that offers networking opportunities, connections with leaders in business, and a scholarly support system.

Beyond La Verne

Students who earn a bachelor’s degree in accounting at University of La Verne will have fulfilled the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam. Those who take the CPA exam may apply to our Master of Science in Accounting program in order to complete the remaining educational requirements necessary to apply for CPA licensure.

Career advising is available to students and recent graduates through the college’s O’Brien Career Center. The center offers guidance to Leopards in search of meaningful and rewarding careers with career preparation resources.
