The curriculum helps prepare those who wish to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam and meet some of the requirements for the Certified Public Accountant licensure.<\/p>\n<p>Students in the MS in Accounting program graduate with valuable skills and knowledge they can immediately apply to real-world problems and career opportunities, including how to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Translate accounting theory to real-world applications;<\/li>\n<li>Apply accounting knowledge, standards, rules, and regulations to business needs;;<\/li>\n<li>Think critically to solve accounting and business problems;<\/li>\n<li>Communicate effectively and write financial and business documents;<\/li>\n<li>Research accounting and business problems; and<\/li>\n<li>Employ ethical and responsible decision making and standards in accounting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/business.laverne.edu\/accounting\/requirements\/\">Learn more about graduate admission requirements.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Accounting Curriculum<\/h2>\n<p>The MS in Accounting requires completion of eight core courses and two electives for a total of 10 courses (30 units). Some students may be required to complete foundation courses\u2014the program director will review each applicant&#8217;s undergraduate coursework and professional experience to determine if foundation courses are necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The program takes one to two years\u2014or six 8-week sessions\u2014to complete and can be taken on a part- or full-time schedule. Classes are taught year-round and there are five start terms per year. Evening courses are available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/business.laverne.edu\/accounting\/curriculum\/\">See the entire accounting curriculum.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Careers in Accounting<\/h2>\n<p>For those aspiring to work in upwardly mobile positions as a controller, chief financial officer, or tax or audit specialist, an advanced degree in accounting is a must.<\/p>\n<p>Certified Public Accountants find work in a variety of industries\u2014from nonprofit to corporate\u2014in small, family-owned businesses and large accounting firms alike. Accounting also offers opportunities for specialization; to name just a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>auditing;<\/li>\n<li>assurance services;<\/li>\n<li>environmental accounting;<\/li>\n<li>forensic accounting;<\/li>\n<li>information technology;<\/li>\n<li>international accounting;<\/li>\n<li>consulting;<\/li>\n<li>personal financial planning;<\/li>\n<li>tax advisory services;<\/li>\n<li>and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/ooh\/business-and-financial\/accountants-and-auditors.htm\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a>, employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 6 percent from 2021 to 2031.
