ULV VITA students can help!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tax time isn&#8217;t everyone&#8217;s favorite time of year. But the VITA program at\u00a0 the University of\u00a0 La&nbsp;Verne is now available to lighten the tax prep burden for eligible taxpayers. Tax preparation services are provided every Saturday from February 4 to April 6 this year, from 9am to 12:30pm.<\/p>\r\n<p>IRS-certified student volunteers from the College of Business will help qualified community members with filing their taxes both electronically or with paper at no cost between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., at the Cogley Building located at 2180 Third Street in La&nbsp;Verne, 91750. Scheduling an appointment time is strongly encouraged. While walk-ins are welcome, they will be served only if space is available.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<h3>What is VITA?<\/h3>\r\n<p>Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS\u2010sponsored community program that helps low -to- moderate-income (generally annual income is no greater $70,000) families and individuals located in La&nbsp;Verne and surrounding communities.<\/p>\r\n<h3>What is the cost?<\/h3>\r\n<p>All volunteers are IRS certified and will assist with both e\u2010filing and paper filing <strong>at no cost to the taxpayer<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<h3>Hours (February 4th through April 6th, 2024)<\/h3>\r\n<p>Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\r\n<h3>How to make an appointment:<\/h3>\r\n<p>You can make an appointment by emailing\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:V&#73;&#84;&#65;&#64;l&#97;v&#101;&#114;n&#101;.ed&#117;\">&#86;&#73;TA&#64;&#108;&#97;&#118;e&#114;&#110;&#101;&#46;&#101;&#100;&#117;.<\/a><\/p>\r\n<h3>What to bring to the first day of your appointment:<\/h3>\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Proof of identity (such as a valid driver\u2019s license or other government issued picture ID)<\/li>\r\n<li>Social Security Cards for you, your spouse and dependents and\/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration<\/li>\r\n<li>Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return<\/li>\r\n<li>Wage and earning statement (s) Form W\u20102, W\u20102G, 1099\u2010R, from all employers<\/li>\r\n<li>Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)<\/li>\r\n<li>Brokerage statements 1099-B and SSA 1099<\/li>\r\n<li>A copy of last year\u2019s federal and state returns if available<\/li>\r\n<li>Bank routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit<\/li>\r\n<li>Total amount paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider\u2019s tax identifying number (the provider\u2019s Social Security Number or the provider\u2019s business Employer Identification Number)<\/li>\r\n<li>Form 1098-T Tuition Expenses<\/li>\r\n<li>Form 1095A \u2013 issued by the Marketplace if you purchased health care insurance through the Marketplace in 2021<\/li>\r\n<li>Exemption Certificate Number (ECN) \u2013 issued by the Marketplace.<\/li>\r\n<li>To file taxes electronically for a <strong>married couple filing joint<\/strong> tax return, <strong>both spouses must be present<\/strong> to sign the required forms.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<h3>Where is the VITA site located?<\/h3>\r\n<p>University of La&nbsp;Verne<br \/>Cogley Building<br \/>2180 Third Street<br \/>La&nbsp;Verne, CA 91750<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The VITA program at La&nbsp;Verne is available on Saturdays-February 4th through April 8th, 2023 to all eligible taxpayers.
