The IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is available at the University of La Verne (ULV) for local, eligible taxpayers to receive free tax services. The VITA program at ULV is serviced by ULV students trained in preparing basic tax returns. To prepare, students attend four Saturday training classes in January. Once they pass three IRS exams, they are eligible to prepare tax returns for the ULV VITA program on campus for ten Saturdays beginning Saturday, February 1, through April 5.
The ULV VITA program provides the students with the opportunity to:
- Apply what they learn to practice
- Provide community service for the underserved in our community
- Gain experience in interviewing and preparing income taxes
This program is advised by Professor Jose Valdovinos and managed by volunteer students. Through the VITA program, MS Accounting students gain valuable, relevant experience in making tax preparation a less daunting task. Dive into engaging conversations, provide quality reviews and tax preparation support, and see for yourself why our site is a hub of tax education where enthusiasm and expertise coalesce to create an unparalleled learning experience.
