Congratulations to University of La Verne College of Business professor Deborah Olson on her publication, Onboarding new hires: recognising mutual learning opportunities in the Journal of Work-Applied Management.
Olson and coauthor Debora Jeske (School of Applied Psychology, University College Cork, Cork, Ireland) found that with flexible work arrangements having become the norm, new hires expect onboarding experiences that allow for a much greater degree of flexibility. Managers face the challenge of providing all new employees with a baseline level of quality onboarding while at the same time customizing the experience to fit the unique requirements of the individual and the role. The article highlights issues and provides pointers for managers onboarding new employees.
