4+1 Accelerated Bachelor+ Master Degrees

Our 4+1 programs let you earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in just five years.

We offer accelerated 4+1 programs in accounting, business administration, data analytics, and leadership and management. Qualified students begin their graduate studies during their senior undergraduate year. The 4+1 provides the certainty that a graduate program is secured and within reach by one’s junior year.

Students interested in one of the three 4+1 programs below will follow an educational plan developed with their academic advisor. After the third year, qualified students may begin taking graduate-level courses, which will count toward both degrees. To learn more, click here.

Master of Science Accounting 4+1 program for BS and BA accounting students

The 4+1 Accounting program will help students prepare for a challenging and rewarding career as an accounting professional practicing public accountancy, working in diverse business industries, or providing specialized services for nonprofits and governmental entities.  Also, this program will be helpful in meeting some of the educational requirements needed to become a Certified Public Accountant.  During the student’s senior year in the undergraduate accounting program, students will begin taking graduate accounting courses, which will count toward both degrees, thereby, providing an accelerated path to completion.

Minimum Requirements to Apply to Participate in the 4+1 Accounting program.

  • Must be a current full-time undergraduate student majoring in Accounting
  • GPA 2.75 overall and in the major
  • All MS Accounting prerequisite and foundation requirements must be met prior to applying to the program
  • Must earn grades of B or better in ACCT 301 Intermediate Accounting I and ACCT 302 Intermediate Accounting II.
  • Must earn grades of C or better in each of the following courses: ACCT 201 Fundamentals of Accounting I, ACCT 202 Fundamentals of Accounting II, BUS 270 Statistics, BUS 330 Business Finance, BUS 360 Principles of Marketing, ECON 220 Economic Analysis I, ECON 221 Economic Analysis II, and MGMT 300 Principles of Management.
  • Must earn a grade of C+ or better in each of the following courses: ACCT 401 Auditing, ACCT 402 Advanced Accounting, and ACCT 308 Federal Taxation I.
  • If any of the grades for undergraduate ACCT courses are not satisfied, a substantially equivalent course may need to be added and requires approval by the MS Accounting Program Director.

MS Accounting Courses in Senior Undergraduate Year

  • A maximum of 12 units of MS Accounting courses can be taken in the senior year with a maximum of 6 units in Fall and 6 units in Spring.
  • MS Accounting course options during the senior year may include MACC 404 Corporate Taxation, MACC 408 Governmental and Not for Profit Accounting, MACC 406 Forensic Accounting, MACC 443 Acct Ethics & Prof Resp.
  • MACC 443 Acct Ethics & Prof Resp may be used to satisfy ACCT 443 Principles of Ethics and Professional Responsibility in Accounting.
  • No undergraduate courses may be used to satisfy MS Accounting graduate level courses.
  • Once accepted to program, it is expected students will register to attend both the Fall and Spring of their senior year as full-time students with two MS Accounting courses each semester.  
  • Students may take remaining GE and major requirements concurrently during this senior year.
  • Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in MS Accounting courses.

How to Prepare to Meet Eligibility Requirements

  • Meet with your Academic Advisor as early as the first semester of the freshman year to review both undergraduate Accounting curriculum and 4+1 Accounting program requirements.  
  • Students interested in this program need to work closely with their Academic Advisor to develop a specific educational plan and must meet with their Academic Advisor each semester.  

 

Master of Business Administration (MBA) 4+1 Program

The 4+1 Master of Business Administration (MBA) program will help undergraduate students obtain a strong foundation in the traditional areas of business administration, the interrelationships among the various functional business disciplines, and a broad exposure to the contemporary skills of management. Emphasis is on the development of skills necessary to manage in a critical, rational, and effective manner within the complex global environment. During the student’s senior year in the undergraduate BS in Business Administration (BSBA), BA in Business Administration (BABA), BS in Economics (BS Econ) program, students will begin taking graduate MBA courses, which will count toward both degrees, thereby providing an accelerated path to completion.

Minimum Requirements to Apply to Participate in the 4+1 MBA Program:

  • Must be a current undergraduate BSBA, BABA, or BS Econ student with a 2.75 GPA.
  • Must earn grades of C or better in each of the following courses:
    • ACCT 203 Financial and Managerial Accounting or ACCT 201 Fundamentals of Accounting I & ACCT 202 Fundamentals of Accounting II
    • BUS 270 Statistics or MGMT 388 Statistics
    • BUS 330 Business Finance
    • ECON 228 Economic Theories & Issues or ECON 220 Economic Analysis I & ECON 221 Economic Analysis II
  • Students must have completed a minimum of 88 semester hour by the end of the junior year.
  • Students must complete the Application for Graduation for the bachelor's undergraduate degree prior to applying for the 4+1 MBA.
  • Students must retain a 2.75 GPA overall and in the major in their senior year.
  • Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in MBA courses.
  • A maximum of 12 semester hours of MBA courses may be taken in the senior year.
  • MBA course options during the senior year may include:
    • MBA 410 Management of Information Technology
    • MBA 451 Seminar in Organization Theory & Behavior
    • MBA 460 Seminar in Marketing Management
    • MBA 475 Analysis of Business Operations
  • Once accepted to the 4+1 MBA program, it is expected students will register in both the Fall and Spring semesters of their senior year.
  • Students must follow the MBA catalog requirements for listed for the 2024-2025 academic year in the University catalog.
  • No undergraduate courses may be used to satisfy MBA graduate level courses.
  • Students may take remaining GE and major requirements concurrently during their senior year.
  • Students can met with their Academic Advisor as early as the first semester of their freshman year to review both undergraduate BSBA/BABA/BS Econ curriculum and 4+1 MBA program requirements.
  • Students interested in this program need to work closely with their Academic Advisor to develop a specific educational plan and must meet with their Academic Advisor each semester.

MBA courses may be used to satisfy these undergraduate requirements:

  • MBA 410 Management of Information Technology used to satisfy BUS 410 Management Information Systems
  • MBA 451 Seminar in Organization Theory & Behavior used to satisfy MGMT 459 Organizational Behavior: Theory and Application
  • MBA 460 Seminar in Marketing Management used to satisfy BUS 461 Marketing Management
  • MBA 475 Analysis of Business Operations used to satisfy BUS 456 Operations Management

Master of Science, Leadership and Management 4+1 Program for BS Organizational Management Students

The 4+1 Master of Science in Leadership & Manangement (MSLM) program will help undergraduate students prepare to be effective future leaders for all types of organizations. The program provides students with the experience to apply theory to real-world applications. Graduates leave with both the ability to apply organizational leadership theory and the problem-solving skills needed to manage an organization. During the student’s senior year in the undergraduate BS Organizational Management (BSOM) program, students will begin taking graduate MSLM courses, which will count toward both degrees, thereby, providing an accelerated path to completion.

Minimum Requirements to Apply to Participate in the 4+1 MSLM program

  • Must be a current undergraduate BSOM student.
  • Student must retain a 2.75 GPA overall and in the major in their senior year.
  • Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA in MSLM courses.
  • A maximum of 12 units of MSLM courses can be taken in the senior year.
  • MSLM course options during the senior year may include: MSLM 421 Ethics and Decision-Making, MSLM 422 Human Resource Management, MSLM 423 Organizational Theory & Design, MSLM 426 Training and Development, MSLM 469 Conflict Management and Organizational Change.
  • Once accepted to the MSLM program, it is expected students will register to attend both the Fall and Spring term of their senior year.
  • No undergraduate courses may be used to satisfy MSLM graduate level courses.
  • Students may take remaining GE and major requirements concurrently during their senior year.
  • MSLM courses are 8-week sessions held in the Fall and Spring terms.

How to Prepare to Meet Eligibility Requirements

  • Meet with your Academic Advisor as early as the first semester of the freshmen year to review both undergraduate BSOM curriculum and 4+1 MSLM program requirements.
  • Students interested in this program need to work closely with their Academic Advisor to develop a specific educational plan and must meet with their Academic Advisor each semester.

Masters in Data Analytics 4+1 Program

Open to undergraduate students in the College of Business as well as Computer Science majors, the Masters in Data Analytics 4+1 Program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of business intelligence and the ability to analyze data and generate insights for better decision-making in the modern business world. During the senior year, undergraduate students approved for this MSDA 4+1 Program will begin taking graduate MSDA courses, which will count toward both degrees, thereby providing an accelerated path to completion.

Minimum Requirements to Apply to Participate in the MSDA 4+1 Program:

  1. Must be a current full-time undergraduate student at the University of La Verne.
  2. GPA 2.75 overall and in the major.
  3. Students must have completed a minimum of 88 units by the end of the junior year.
  4. Students must complete the “Application for Graduation Process” for the bachelor’s undergraduate degree (between April-May).

MSDA Courses in Senior Undergraduate Year:

  1. Once accepted to the Program, it is expected students will register to attend both the Fall and Spring of their senior year as full-time students with a maximum of two MSDA courses each semester.
  2. Students may take the remaining GE and major requirements concurrently during this senior year.
  3. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in the courses intended to be used for the MSDA graduate degree.
  4. No undergraduate courses may be used to satisfy MSDA graduate-level courses.
  5. If students complete Statistics (e.g., BUS 270 Statistics or a substantially equivalent course) and Linear Algebra (e.g., MATH 320 Linear Algebra or a substantially equivalent course) with grades of C+ or better, MDA 500 Statistics and Linear Algebra can be waived.
  6. A maximum of 12 units of MSDA courses (3 units each) can be taken in the senior year, with a maximum of 6 units in Fall and 6 units in Spring.
  7. MSDA course options during the senior year may include a maximum of 4 MSDA courses and may be applied to the bachelor’s undergraduate degree. See program chair for options.
